Isn’t the Moon Beautiful?

Last night was a total lunar eclipse, and a blood moon all in one night.  People flooded the news and social media with the overwhelming excitement of seeing these phenomena. Pictures were profusely posted on social media, as were assorted videos of footage where people took time just look at the moon.  The question is, in all of the excitement about the beauty of the moon, did anyone stop to think about it’s Creator?

The beauty of the moon has been no surprise to the one who created it, why is it such a surprise to us?  God even went to far as to tell us in Genesis 1:14-19 that He knew the sun and the moon would be beautiful.  How do we know this? The very day when He set them in the heavens, he looked over them an declared that they were good. “Then God said, ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be signs for the seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth; and it was so.  Then God mad two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night.  He made the stars also.  God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness.  And God saw that it was good.”

It was so intentional when God created the sun and the moon, that He planned for them to be signs for our seasons, for the length of our days and our nights.  What brings awe to my heart is that God has no sense of time.  He is the beginning and the end.  He knows all, and is in all places at all times.  We never have to schedule an appointment to meet with Him, because He never leaves us.  Yet, he knew that we would need measurements for time, and he created them just for us.

Back to our total lunar eclipse and the blood moon.  Did I run out on my front porch to look at them?  Absolutely!  However, rather than just being excited about the phenomena of the stars, I found myself far more excited about our God.  Our God created that very moon we looked at last night!  Our God planned ahead to show off His handy work by creating these extra special times where we would drop everything…be it even for just a few moments, to relish in His greatness.  He reminded me clearly that He is to be worshiped and praised.  He is the Creator…the artist to whose gallery we rushed for a supernatural exhibit of great proportions.  Have you thought about that?

More so, He created that beautiful display of grace, beauty, color, power, and out of this worldness (is that’s even a word?), to bring us all together.  All across this country, and across this entire earth, we were all viewing the very same moon created by the very same God, who desires nothing more than for all of us to share eternity with him in the very same home.
